What Steps Can I Take to Avoid Fraud During Auto Transport?

03/01/2011

While fraud is rare during car shipping, it can happen. So, there are a few steps you can take to ensure that the correct company is picking up your vehicle:

  1. Check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure a company is legitimate before scheduling car shipping with them.
  2. Ask to see and record the credentials of the driver picking up the vehicle. Credentials can include a bill of lading, driver’s license, license plate, or a copy of their Federal Motor Carrier Authority.

If a carrier refuses to provide the requested information, the vehicle should not be given to the carrier.

*Please Note: *The company name of the auto hauler picking up your vehicle may be different from the auto transport company with which you scheduled your transport. Auto transport companies frequently subcontract auto transport in order to move your vehicle more quickly.
