On What Kind of Truck Will My Car be Shipped?

Most vehicles are shipped on open carriers that typically hold 8-10 cars. These are the same kind of trucks that you’ve probably seen delivering cars to dealerships. However, there are some instances in which a different type of truck might be used. The following are some examples:

  1. Enclosed Transport – If you choose this shipping option, your vehicle will be shipped on an enclosed carrier, which protects it from the elements. Enclosed carriers are usually designed to carry fewer vehicles at a time. (See our post on Enclosed Auto Transport for more information.)

  2. Short-Distance Shipping – If your car is only being transported a short distance, such as within the same state, carriers that hold 2-4 vehicles are commonly used.

  3. Limited Demand – In areas where there is less demand for auto transport, it’s less economical for auto transporters to ship on the larger 8-10 car trucks. In that case, a truck with lower capacity will most likely be used.

Regardless of the type of car carrier that ultimately ships your car, what’s most important is that you choose a reliable transport company with a track record of good customer service.
